Lung Function Testing

Our nurses are trained and experienced in performing lung function testing (spirometry). Spirometry measures the flow and volume of air entering and leaving the lungs. It is used to assess ventilatory function and differentiates between normality and diseases causing obstructive and possibly restrictive defects.

Dopplers

An ankle brachial pressure index (ABPI) is a simple non-invasive method of identifying arterial insufficiency within a limb.

It compares the ankle and brachial systolic blood pressures. An important factor determining the rate of healing of any wound is adequate arterial blood supply. In the management of leg ulcers, the ABPI forms a fundamental part of any wound healing assessment.

These ABPI Dopplers are performed by our clinic nurses. For all booking enquiries, please speak to reception staff.

Iron Infusions

New Street Medical Centre offers a rapid iron infusion service, with the use of Ferinject, for the management of Iron Deficiency Anaemia. Ferinject is a special type of iron preparation given intravenousely, and requires you to stay for observation after. This procedure takes approximately 1 hour and is performed by our clinic nurses and doctors. Ferinject is not a blood product (therefore is suitable for Jehovah’s Witnesses), and does not have the risks of blood transfusion. If you suffer from iron deficiency anaemia, talk to one of our doctors today to discuss the suitability of this treatment option.
